About this post
Flavored salt makes the best homemade present. It is very easy to prepare, looks super cute, and everybody will like it. Also, make sure you prepare extra for you to keep.
December is pure craziness. There are a million extra things to do and think of. That is why I started making my own gifts. It is easier and budget-friendly, and I love to get homemade gifts. Also, here is a secret: I love to keep and use all of the extra flavored salt.
Another great thing about this flavored salt is that your kids can help prepare it. It makes a great teacher, coach, or doctor’s gift.
How to make flavored salt?
There is only one step to make it and only two ingredients:
1/4 cup of salt+ 1 teaspoon of the flavoring of your choice = flavored salt
tips, tricks & other recipes
- You can use any type of salt you like: sea salt, Himalayan salt, or Sel Gris. I used a combination of sea salt and Himalayan salt.
- To flavor the salt, you can use any chile, dried aromatics, or spices that you have on hand. Use dried garlic, rosemary, thyme, lavender, orange or lemon peel, red chili peppers, dried chile ancho, or, if you feel extra adventurous, chocolate or coffee.
- If your grocery store does not carry dried lemon, lime, or orange peel… make it yourself.
- How to make dried citrus peel: Place the peel of the citrus of your choice on a baking sheet and bake for 2-3 hours at 200º F. Check on it constantly; you are looking to dehydrate the peel. When done, it must be crispy and easy to grind.
- Some recipes would be great with any flavored salt: Sweet potato chips, Simple vegan broccoli soup, guacamole, mashed potatoes, etc.
So, if you are using this flavored salt as Christmas presents, just wrap some cotton twine around the cute containers and tie holly berry leaves or other Christmas greenery. Here are the circle tags that I used for my containers: Circle tags
