This delicious creamy dip is a dairy-free option for those of us who love chips and onion dip. This vegan dip is made with very few ingredients and is flavorful. But that’s where the secret is, in the ingredients.

The caramelized onion has the perfect umami flavor that will make you want to keep eating the chips over and over again. This dip is perfect with potato chips, crackers, carrots, even cucumbers, really, you name it!

How to make onion dip?

Put the olive oil and butter in a frying pan. Add the onion and the shallots; when they are caramelized, add the soy sauce.

Add the cream, season with salt and pepper, and leave until the dip has the desired consistency.

Serve

The dip can be left in the pan and served with chips or on a platter.

VEGAN ONION DIP

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons vegan butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 large shallots sliced
  • 2 large onions sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • cup cashew cream or sour cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Heat the olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and finely cut shallots, and sauté them patiently until they reach a golden caramelized color. At that moment, add the soy sauce and keep stirring.
  • Add the cream. Stir gently to combine all the ingredients. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Continue cooking on low heat, stirring occasionally, until the dip reaches your desired consistency.

Notes

If you don’t have shallots, it’s okay, you can skip them.
You can also use store-bought vegan cream.
Here is the recipe for homemade cashew cream. Remember, you could also use almonds to make the cream.
