About the Mango habanero salsa

This roasted habanero mango salsa strikes the perfect balance between sweet and spicy. The habaneros provide a nice kick, while the mango adds a sweetness that offsets the spice.

This salsa is flavorful and has a slight spiciness and sweetness, making it ideal for serving with chips, on tacos, or as a condiment. The habanero peppers are pretty spicy, so adding mango or pineapple to this salsa works well. The fruit adds sweetness and helps to balance the spiciness of the chiles. The apple cider vinegar enhances the flavors and extends the salsa’s shelf life.

Ingredients

  • Mangoes. Any mango will work for the salsa. I love to use Tommy mangoes because they are sweet, easy to cut and peel, and have great color.
  • Habaneros. I like to use orange or yellow habaneros to continue the same color palate but feel free to use what you have on hand.
  • Onion and garlic. Cut the onion into quarters and remove the first peel. Do not peel the garlic cloves. We need that thin paper layer to avoid bunting garlic.
  • Vegetable oil. I like to use avocado oil, but any other oil with a high heat smoking point will work.
  • Apple cider vinegar.

FAQ

  • Can I use pre-cut mangoes from the supermarket? You can definitely use precut mango if you are in a hurry.
  • What can I sub mangoes with? If you can’t find mangoes, you can substitute them with pineapple or peaches.
  • Are habaneros spicy? Habaneros are spicy. They range from 100,000 to 350,000 on the Scoville heat scale. Habaneros are more spicy than jalapeños, but they are still not that hot.
  • Is this the copycat recipe for Wingstop habanero mango salsa? No, but I can assure you it is extremely delicious.
